Bantam Team Victorious Again!

The Bantam Predators took the Richmond Hill Stars 2 games to 1, to win round two of the ETA’s.

The Richmond Hill Stars hosted the Bantam Predators for game one of a three game series last Tuesday. Despite a strong effort by the Predators, who went with a short bench as 4 players were out, and although the team put forth a gutsy effort, it was not enough: Richmond Hill defeated the North Central team 2-0.

In game 2 at Rama on Friday, 3 of the 4 players returned to the line-up and — for the first time in a long while — the Bantam team iced three complete lines. The return of the players put the lines back in sync, and the Predators won 6-3: Jason Bailey scored a natural hat trick, and Matt Standen, Trevor Smith, and Kristoff Kontos provided the final 3 goals. The series was knotted with the deciding game going down south to the Richmond Hill Stars home ice.

One thing for sure that most coaches will tell you is that home ice is neither an advantage nor a disadvantage in the deciding game of a series. With that in mind, a confident Bantam team traveled to Richmond Hill on Sunday with the thought that they could win this. Hard work and some “friendly referees in Richmond Hill” (?) allowed North Central to score 2 power play goals and take the lead in the first period: the goals were scored by Kontos and Tyler Marchand. In the second period, Jason Bailey scored the eventual winner to make it 3-0 going into the third period. Richmond Hill came out ready to do battle with the Predators, and tried to come back, but it was a case of too little, too late, and they could only score two goals. The final score: Predators 3, Richmond Hill 2.

The Bantam team now moves on to play the Central Ontario Wolves this weekend.
